An ancient city founded by Canaanite Hawiyah tribes in mid 3rd millennium B.C.
. It was built on Tal Balata where it became a city state according to the Canaanite
Political system. Because of its favourable geographic position , and abundance
of water, the city prospered and became an important economic and strategic center.
 However   , the city was destroyed in the 5th century B.C., at the hand of Egyptian
 pharaohs. Nablus was invaded by several strange peoples , In 63 B.C. the city fell
 in the hand of the Romans. (they destroyed much of the old city and built a new
city to the west and called it Neapolis). In 635 A.D. the Muslims took over the city,
 and since then many nations ruled this city such as the crusades , British mandate ,
 Hashimite Kingdom of Jordan. The city was occupied by the Israeli's in 1967 then
 liberated by handing it to the Palestinian National Authority in 1995.
